What Is CPAP?
A continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) machine filters room air and delivers it into your airway at a prescribed pressure to treat sleep apnea. Most CPAP machines have a heated humidifier that delivers moisture into the airway to prevent dry mouth. CPAP machines will gradually increase the amount of air pressure so that it is easier to tolerate. If your doctor wants you to have a different type of CPAP machine, you may be looking for a BiPAP machine – these are similar to the CPAP but provide two air pressure settings.
In addition to the CPAP machines we carry at Americare Respiratory Services, we also offer most styles and brands of CPAP nasal masks, CPAP full face masks, CPAP headgear, CPAP cushions, as well as replacement parts and accessories.
What is Sleep Apnea?
Sleep apnea is a common condition that causes you to suddenly stop breathing while you are asleep. You may wake up startled or gasping for air or you may not wake up at all during the periods when you stop breathing. What happens is your airway collapses, preventing airflow from your mouth to your lungs. With the use of a PAP device, your airway is forced open all night long with gentle air pressure. Although it may take some time to get used to breathing with a CPAP machine at night, it is life-saving device for anyone with obstructive sleep apnea. Modern designs have made PAP devices more comfortable and tolerable than ever before.
